For Winterstations 2024, our team focused on how different individuals perceive the dawn and its light. Inspired by this, our installation flutters from different perspectives and celebrates our collective differences. As one peers from the cityscape, the existing lifeguard stand is all but hidden within a seemingly solid form. However, as one approaches, the illusion dissipates and the solidity delaminates, exposing various alcoves just large enough for one to pass through. Our design consists of a collection of modules that are layered, carved, rotated, and framed with translucent colored panels. The orientation of each module is curated to present an ever-evolving form by casting a kaleidoscope of color and shadow as the sun rises and falls. Additionally, just like how the sun changes its position, this installation can be easily rearranged into new forms and produce an array of new lighting, seating, and threshold conditions throughout the adjacent city.
